Last year the HDMI input on my 60GB PS3 bit the dust right after I bought a 1080p tv. This week I attempted to hardwire my PS3 to my router and discovered the ethernet port no longer works. I wanted to hardwire the system hoping it would resolve the lag I encounter when gaming online.
Since my PS3 has no HDMI or ethernet, I'm debating my options. I can keep the 60GB PS3 and live with the issues, or I can send it to Sony for repair (I hear I'd get a refurb in return with 90 day warranty for a cost of about $150), or I could trade the system to Gamestop (I read they give you $150 for a working system, but not sure what I'd get if the aforementioned ports are shot). It appears Gamestop has a deal this week that offers an additional $50 on a system trade, if you spend the trade money that day and of course I'd buy another PS3.
If you were in my shoes what would you do? Anyone ever trade their system in? I'd really like to hardwire the system and it would be nice to take advantage of 1080p through HDMI when watching bluray movies.

If you haven't ran the firmware update and still have 'install other OS' and backward compatibility I'd put it up 'as is' on Ebay which should be good for at least what you can get at Gamestop and could then get a new slim.
You might want to check eBay anyway. Probably some angry guys getting rid of their stuff because of the firmware kurfuffle.
I hear that you can insist on your original system being returned to you if you send off for repairs.
Although the Gamestop route has the benefit of being done and over quickly and comparatively painlessly. I tend to shy away from used electronics particularly child used electronics myself. I don't know that that is particularly rational.

I think Sony had a deal where if you send in your 60gb PS3 for repairs you can get a 120gb slim (refurb I believe) for $150 or something in exchange which is cheaper than the repair bill. Not sure why they're trying to phase out the 60gbers....
Anyways, if you don't mind paying $150 for a refurbed slim it would be an option to consider.
Since Gamestop is making a good deal for trade-in, it sounds like the best option... assuming they will accept your system.
I would go with getting a slim if my system broke since I don't use any of the missing features the got rid of for the slim and the slim uses less power I believe (more cash in your pocket from the electricity bill).

I found a local game console repair shop that has decent prices. I sent them an email to find out what the price would be to fix the issues I mentioned. If they can't fix it, I probably will call Sony to look into the trade for a slim. Wouldn't be a bad deal if I only have to put out just over $100, even if it is a refurb.
I probably will skip Gamestop because I assume they would cut the price too much when I tell them two ports are fried. I might still call them to see what they say. If they give me $150, I'd probably pull the trigger to get a new slim with a full warranty.
If all the options turn out to be a bad deal, I may just keep what I have since it technically still works. Thanks for the input.

you could always try gamestop without mentioning things are broke first... they may not check those things
